1SG William Thomas "Bill" Garner, 74, passed away on April 1, 2026, in Sierra Vista, Arizona. Born on October 3, 1951, in Englewood, New Jersey.
Bill proudly served his country for 22 years in the United States Army, retiring as a First Sergeant in October 1992. His military career was distinguished and far-reaching. Beginning as a Morse Code Intercept Operator, he later advanced to become a Signals Intelligence/Electronic Warfare Chief and ultimately served as a First Sergeant. His service took him across the globe to Vietnam, Germany, Virginia, Massachusetts, Honduras, and Georgia. Bill’s commitment to his country left an indelible mark on those who served alongside him.
After retiring from the Army, Bill embarked on a second career as a swimming pool technician. He found great satisfaction in helping others resolve their swimming pool issues until his health necessitated his retirement. Despite these challenges, he remained steadfast in his determination to live life fully.
Bill was deeply passionate about sport shooting and spent many Saturdays at the Sierra Vista Gun Range until his health no longer allowed it. This hobby brought him joy and camaraderie with others who shared his enthusiasm.
He is survived by his wife, Marti Wulfow Garner; his brother Chris Garner; sister-in-law Helen; nephews Sean and Justin; cousins Raymond Klose (Estelle), Martin Klose, and Jack's wife Betty Klose; and his children from his first marriage: Bettina Earl, Marcel Garner, and Melanie Tindel. Bill was predeceased by his parents William Garner and Marian Garner; his brother Jim Garner; and cousins Kathy Klose and Jack Klose.
In December 2012, Bill began battling health complications caused by Agent Orange exposure during the Vietnam War. He developed Amyloidosis and Nephrotic Syndrome.
An Inurnment will be held on April 22, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Southern Arizona Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 1300 Buffalo Soldier Trail, Sierra Vista, AZ. Those who wish to attend should arrive to the cemtery, in the staging area, by 12:30 PM.
