Walid "Wally" Dugan Obituary

Obituary

Walid Numan Dugan

Dec. 24, 1936 – Aug. 19, 2021

Walid (Wally) N. Dugan, age 84, passed away August 19, 2021 in Sierra Vista, AZ.  Wally was born in 1936 in Bethlehem, Middle East before coming to the United States in 1971, with the help of life-long friend Bill.  Wally grew up in a American-Christian orphanage in Lebanon after his father passed away in the war of 1947.  Wally would often dream of coming to the United States charmed by the Pioneer Days, Westerns, and admiring the legend of Buffalo Bill Cody as a child.

Wally went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology at the American University of Beirut in 1971.   Later that year, Wally realized his dream by immigrating to the United States in Scotts Valley, California. He would reunite with his childhood friend Bill, meet his eventual wife, and marry in Santa Cruz, CA in 1973.  In 1975 they were blessed with the birth of their first-born son.  In 1978 Wally and his young family moved to Long Beach, CA and were blessed with the birth of their second-born son.

Wally didn’t forget about his family that he had left behind in the Middle East.  With unyielding perseverance, he helped his mother, brothers and their families immigrate legally to the United States.  Wally was a force of nature, determined to live his American Dream, provide for his family, his extended family and give them the life they deserved in America.

Wally worked hard in various jobs while learning new skills before spending most of his career working for McDonnell Douglas Aircraft (Boeing) in Long Beach, CA as a Quality Control Inspector.  His family around him meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he proudly and often mentioned.  He was endlessly proud of his two sons, always supporting their education, and their talent in music, soccer and the arts.  Wally was very passionate about the game of soccer & cheered loudly for his boys from the sidelines.

Wally took an early retirement in 1996 to start his own businesses to further realize his American Dream.  He invested in a Postal franchise and his own “Internet Store” business with help of his son.  By 2007 he finally retired and moved to Sierra Vista, AZ.  There he went on to live the remainder of his life while forging new bonds with new friends with his exuberance of life, often telling jokes with a great sense of humor, and his eagerness to help others.

Wally was predeceased by his parents and three brothers.  Wally is survived by a brother; a former spouse of 33 years and mother of his two sons with five grandchildren. Not to forget a sister-in-law, many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends that he treated as his own.
