Virginia Dare Wells, beloved mother, grandmother, and loving wife to William Wells, passed away peacefully on October 23rd at the age of 99.
Virginia is preceded in death by her husband William (Bill). She is survived by her daughter Billie Jean Galt, her son James Wells, her grandchildren, Jimmy Galt, Patrick Galt, Gretchen Daschke, Marc Wells, and her great-grandchildren Joshua Daschke, Zackary Daschke, Nathan Daschke, Logan Wells and Cameron Wells. Born in North Carolina on August 30, 1925, Virginia was known for being a kind and caring to people, and unwavering in her love for her family and friends.
Virginia met her husband, William (Bill) Wells, in Beaufort, North Carolina and they were married on August 5, 1942. They were married for over 50 years when he passed away in 1993. Together they raised two children, Billie Jean and Jim, who will cherish her memory forever. Her four grandchildren and five Great-Grandchildren brought her endless joy.
She loved spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed going out with her daughter to Bazaars and other local events like “Art in the Park.” She was also an avid bowler until the age of 93. During, WWII Virginia worked in a bomb factory in Little Rock Arkansas, putting graphite into the fuses of the bombs.
Virginia and Bill lived in several military bases in the United States and Germany until they moved back to Fort Huachuca in 1960. When her husband Bill retired from the military in 1963, they bought a house in Sierra Vista AZ where she lived for the remainder of her life.
Virginia will be remembered for her big heart, her infectious laughter, and her kind and generous spirit. She was a true inspiration to all who knew her.
Will be laid to rest with her husband Bill at the Fort Huachuca Post Cemetery… We all will miss you dearly. You will forever be in our hearts.
Services for Virginia will be held at Hatfield’s Funeral Home at 10:00 AM on Tuesday October 29th. Followed by a graveside service on Fort Huachuca at 12:00 PM.
