Shirley, lovingly known as "The Coupon Lady" at the Commissary on Fort Huachuca, Arizona, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 19, 2026, following a brief illness.

Shirley was born in Saginaw, Michigan, the only child of John (Jack) and Elizabeth (nee Ruppel) Schneider. Shirley attended and graduated from Arthur Hill High School, during which she worked as a co-op student at Watson Ice Cream Company She also for Michigan Bell Telephone Col, and finally, at Saginaw General Hospital. Shirley met and fell in love with John Gebhart at Brockway Roller Rink; they were married in October 1955 and lived in Buena Vista Township before moving to Saginaw Township in 1970 and then to Freeland in 1979, all in Michigan. After their retirement, John and Shirley moved to Hereford, Arizona, in 1993 where they continued their love of square dancing, attending dancing events in Tucson, Arizona. In Sierra Vista, Shirley volunteered with the Red Cross and was a member of the local Red Hat Ladies Society. John and Shirley maintained their spiritual lives at the Main Post Chapel on Fort Huachuca until John's passing in 2005. By 2020 Shirley had found a new spiritual home, attending First Christian Church and weekly women's bible study sessions until her death.

Following her husband John's death, Shirley met Nicholas Chizewsky while she was distributing coupons at the Commissary. They held a private commitment ceremony in Hawaii and maintained a loving and committed relationship until Nick's pass in 2018.

Shirley was pre-deceased by her husband John, parents John (Jack) and Elizabeth Schneider, mother-in-law Hettie Glass, and her companion Nick. She is survived by her children: John (Sally) and their three children, Shanna, Alex, and Karissa, and her daughter Karen, all of Colorado. She is also survived by her son Mark, in Michigan.

Per Shirley's wishes, cremation has taken place; there will be no services. She will be interred with her husband John at the Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Sierra Vista, Arizona.
