Shirley Gast

Shirley Gast died at home in Sierra Vista, surrounded by loved ones, on September 9. Shirley was born to H.S. and Estelle Pauley in Louisville, Kentucky. She received her bachelor’s degrees in Nutrition and Chemistry, and managed telephone company cafeterias in Southern and Central California before raising a family.

She was married to Don Gast, who preceded her in death in 1978. She was also preceded in death by her daughter Melissa in 2015.

She was an active member of her church and her community for 52 years. She was an avid bridge player. She was known for her generosity, especially for her passion for fighting hunger in the U.S. and abroad.

She is survived by her children: Timothy and Kristen; her grandchildren: Ramsey, Riley, Gabriel, Tatiana, Donovan and Hendrix; as well as four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on November 11, 2021 at Sierra Evangelical Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to any program aimed at fighting hunger.
