October 16, 1957 - February 19, 2024

Vernon Evander Green, 66 of Sierra Vista, Arizona, peacefully passed away on Monday, February 19, 2024.

Vernon was born on October 16, 1957, in Newport News, Virginia to Mozell Brantley and Anna Augusta (Council) Green.

 He was raised in Newport News, Virginia and graduated from Homer L. Ferguson High School in Newport News, Virginia. 

Vernon Evander Green was a United States Army Veteran. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1976 to 1988.  While in service to his country he achieved the rank of Sergeant working as a Wire Systems Installer and an Infantryman.  He earned many medals and commendations to include the Army Achievement Medal Second Award, Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Service Ribbon, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (2), Overseas Service Ribbon and the Air Assault Badge.  Sergeant Green’s final duty station was Fort Huachuca Arizona where he was honorably discharged on August 8, 1988.   

Vernon was also active in multiple charities, such as the American Red Cross and the American Legion. His favorite past time hobbies were coin collecting and spending quality time with his cat, “Boogie.”

Vernon was a man that liked to try new things and worked in various job positions throughout his lifetime getting to meet new people along the way.

Vernon is survived by loving children, brothers, sisters, aunts, and uncles, as well as many cousins. He loved his family, whether it be biological or chosen, so much, we don’t want to leave anyone’s name unlisted therefore, none will be listed. As to be loved by Vernon meant you were family to Vernon.

A committal service with military honors will commence on Friday, February 23rd, 2024, at 1:00 PM at the Southern Arizona Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, located at 1300 Buffalo Soldier Trail, Sierra Vista, Arizona 85635
