Roderick Byrow Washington, known as “Rody” was born on February 5, 1953 in Greenville, Mississippi. His parents are Queen Esther Kuykendall Washington-Watson and Flowers Washington, both deceased.

He grew up in Church of God in Christ in Greenville, Mississippi.

He attended Englewood High School in Chicago, Illinois, where he developed a love for playing Tennis. In his personal time, he enjoyed watching tennis matches and Westerns. While living in Chicago, he worked at Burger King and at the Post O!ce. He confessed Christ as the Son of The Living God and has studied the word of God for well over 55 years.

After receiving his diploma, Rody attended the Mississippi Delta Community College where he excelled in English/Communications.

As Rody was extremely skilled in Plastering, Painting and Sheet Rock, he utilized his gifts to make ends meet.

Roderick “Rody” Washington, a United States Army Veteran, proudly served his country from 1976 to 1978. While in service to his country he achieved the rank of Specialist Four working as a Personnel Actions Specialist. He earned many medals and commendations. Specialist Four Washington’s "nal duty station was Rose Barracks, Bad Kreuznach, West Germany where he was honorably discharged on March 16, 1978.

After his military service, Rody joined the American Legion Post 24 and was an active member of the American Legion Riders. He was one of a kind and well loved within the Legion family.

He truly delighted in the word of God and could recite every book of the Bible while describing them one by one and in order, all in less than two minutes.

He attended One Community Church under the leadership of Pastor Ken Richardson.

He leaves his Sisters: Diane Washington-Baker-Thomas, Sheila Washington, Bebra Washington, Vonda Washington-Hayes, Robin Washington, Dyontra Washington, Maneisia Washington (deceased) and Sonja Washington-Williams (deceased). Brothers: Cornelius Washington, Charles Washington-Rogers, Roswell Washington, Micheal Washington (deceased), Cleophas Watson, Jr. (step-brother) and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Daughters: Gabrielle Nicole Washington (Dr. Denise Webber-Jenkins) and (deceased) Ronika Bayanka Washington (Mrs. Charlotte Bradley) Son: Roderick Washington (Ms. Caroline Walker) Granddaughter: Arielle Nicole Turner (Gabrielle Nicole Washington).
