Raymond Moses
December 22, 1932 – May 28, 2025
Raymond Moses, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and community member, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2025 at the age of 92. Born on December 22, 1932, in Massena, New York, to Raymond and Irene Moses, Ray went on to live a full and generous life marked by devotion to family, community, and his deep love for nature.
Ray came to Arizona in 1952 and quickly came to call it home. He often referred to Arizona as “God’s Country,” embracing its beauty and spirit. A dedicated businessman, Ray was also active in his community as a Jaycee, Chamber of Commerce member where he dedicated countless hours to the Annual Christmas Parade Celebration and was instrumental in helping found the first hospital in Sierra Vista. He was a Rotarian and 4th degree Knights of Columbus member.
In his retirement, Ray found joy in gardening and birdwatching at his home in Ramsey Canyon. He had a particular fondness for roses, a passion he shared with others and carried throughout his life—his yard was filled with the blooms he cherished.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Moses Sr. and Irene Moses; his younger sister, June Merithew; his younger brother, Norman Moses and brother-in-law, John Schweikart.
He is survived by his loving wife, Phoebe; his daughter, Renee Cox (Mike); his son, Shelly Rogers (Jenny); and his granddaughter, Sally Cox. He is also remembered by his sisters-in-law, Kathie Schweikart and Ethel Townsend, several nieces and nephews, and longtime family friend Joseph Ford.
Ray’s legacy lives on in the family he loved and the community he served. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
A gathering of friends and family will be held at Hatfield funeral home on Monday, June 2, 2025 from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm. A funeral mass in celebration of Ray’s life will be held at Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church, 1425 E. Yaqui St., Sierra Vista, Arizona, on June 3, 2025 at 10:30 am. Interment will be at Southern Arizona Veterans’ Cemetery.
