Ramona Sara Wallace
August 31, 1927 - January 17, 2025
It is with love and deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Ramona Sara Wallace at the age of 97. Born amid the Great Depression to Candelaria Ramos and Luis Martinez, Ramona began her life in a large, faith-filled family of 13. She grew up surrounded by the enduring strength of her parents' love and the grounding force of their Roman Catholic faith. It was this faith that Ramona would carry with her throughout her life.
At just 13, she became a member of the Legion of Mary, a Marian Group she would cherish and nurture for the rest of her life, regardless of where she lived. Over the years, this faith would become her guiding light, and she remained a dedicated servant of The Virgin Mary.
Ramona’s love story began with her meeting and marrying Paul A. Wallace, a member of the United States Navy. Their marriage took them on a remarkable journey across the country, from California to Alaska, Washington, Oregon, and Arizona, where they raised three beautiful daughters: Roberta, Rebecca, and Rita Wallace. Ramona worked as a nurse receiving her training at Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield, California, during the 1950s, living in Mercy Hospital Dorms while she pursued her education and clinical training.
Her daughters will always remember their mother as a woman of steadfast faith and love. Ramona’s prayers were constant, and she devoted herself to The Virgin Mary. Her home was a place of comfort and creativity, where she would lovingly create recital costumes for her daughters and plan countless family road trips. These trips were filled with laughter, exploration, and wonder. A memory that remains etched in their hearts is one of Ramona admiring the beauty of a field of bluebell flowers during one such journey. This simple yet profound moment reflected her deep appreciation for the world around her.
Though she found joy in these family adventures, she also knew the importance of relaxation. She could often be found enjoying her favorite television shows, a cherished way to unwind after a busy day.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul A. Wallace (2006), and her daughter, Roberta A. Wallace (2011). Ramona is survived by her daughters, Rebecca Wallace, Rita Wallace-Wetstein, and husband Danny Wetstein, along with many other loving family members and friends. Her legacy of faith, love, and service will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but always remembered with gratitude and affection.
Please join the family for Ramona’s Funeral Mass on Feb 8, 2025at Saint Andrew's Apostle Church. The Rosary will begin at 10 a.m. followed by Mass at 10:30. Afterward a private burial will be attended by the family.
