It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rafael “Ralph” Tamayo, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who left us peacefully on October 11, 2024. Rafael, a lifelong resident of Arizona, was born on October 24, 1951, in Douglas, Arizona, to the late Leonardo and Julia Tamayo.
Rafael was a hardworking individual who dedicated much of his free time to coaching little league baseball to the youth in Douglas. His passion for nurturing young talent and instilling values of teamwork made a lasting impact on the community.
Rafael's life was marked by an unwavering love for his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Maria Elena Tamayo. Together, they built a beautiful life, raising their loving daughter, Alma (Joel) Silva, and son, Tony (Sandra) Tamayo. Rafael took great joy in his role as a grandfather, enjoying every moment possible with his dear grandsons Antonio Tamayo, Claudio Estrada and Davian Estrada. He is also survived by his precious siblings: sisters Gloria Noperi, Leticia (Rogelio) Ramirez, Alicia (Jack) Weber, and brother George (Maggie) Tamayo. Rafael was a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews, who will forever hold him in their hearts.
