Naomi (Phillips) Ormond, known affectionately as “nay,” passed away in her home on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at the age of 90.

Nay was born on Saturday, June 22, 1935, in Keysville, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Rev. Matthew and Carrie (Gee) Phillips. She lost both of her parents at a very young age. Nay and her two older sisters and younger brother were raised by her grandmother and great-grandmother in Sailsbury, North Carolina where she attended public school. She graduated from J.C. Price High School as the class of 1954.

She was a majorette and was voted “best looking” in her high school yearbook. Which is no surprise as she was a stunning woman both inside and out. Naomi attended Livingston College in Sailsbury, North Carolina. Soon afterwards she married her high school sweetheart, the love of her life, Jesse T. Ormond on Friday, September 14, 1956, in Arlington, Virginia. To that union they had four sons, Rooderic, Reginald, Geoffrey and Gregory.

Jesse joined the United States Air Force police in 1956 and served during Vietnam. They had assignments in California, Madrid Spain, and Cheyenne, Wyoming. Nay worked as a substitute teacher while they resided in Wyoming. Jesse was honorably discharged in 1968. After his discharge they settled in Prince George’s County, Mayland, a suburb of Washington, D.C., where she worked for many years in education for the Prince George’s public school system.

In 1985, Jesse’s job for the Department of Defense, transferred the family to Fort Huachuca, Arizona. Where he was the Chief of payments and examinations. Retiring in 1996. The move was a great fit for the family as Nay loved the picturesque sunsets and mountain views. As well as the scenic drives to Tubac and Bisbee.

Naomi loved fashion. Nay was always well dressed and polished woman. She enjoyed yard sales and finding hidden treasures. She had a wonderful heart and caring nature. She was sharp-witted and extremely intelligent.

Nay was a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. She leaves to honor her memory her son and caregiver, Gregory Ormond of Sierra Vista, Arizona; granddaughter, Nicole Ormond-Sanchez of Alexandria, Virginia; sister-in-law Maxine O. Davis of Charlotte, North Carolina; brother-in-law, Howard Omond of Quinton Virgina; many nieces and nephews, and friends that were more like family.

She is preceded in death by her devoted husband, Jesse T. Ormond; eldest son, Roderic T. Ormond; sons, Reginald V. Ormond and Geoffrey K. Ormond; sisters, Ruth Dixon and Esther Littlejohn; and brother, Matthew Phillips Jr.

She will be deeply missed by all whose lives she has touched, and this world will be a little dimmer without her shining light in it.

The family wished to extend a heartfelt “Thank you” to Dr. Knapp and his wonderful staff for their professionalism and kindness.

A private interment will take place at Cochise Memory Gardens Cemetery, located at 5590 E Charleston Road, Sierra Vista, Arizona.
