Sierra Vista-Michael E. McKenzie, 84, of Sierra Vista passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 27, 2024 surrounded by his family at his home.
Michael, son of the late Willard J. and Olive A. (Chateau) McKenzie, was born in Detroit, Michigan on December 23, 1939.
Michael served his country with the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Serving for more than 20 years he retired with the rank of Sergeant First Class.
Upon his retirement from the Army he worked for Civil Service on Fort Huachuca at Greely Hall in Intelligence and then he worked for the Immigration Department as a Customs Agent.
He attended the Police Academy to obtain his marksman certificate. Michael had many hobbies he enjoyed doing such as working on his house, doing landscaping, puzzles and was an avid reader.
Michael resided in Sierra Vista for the past 45 years, was a communicant of St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church and a member of the VFW Post 9972 of Sierra Vista.
In addition to his parents, Michael was predeceased by a son, Joseph M. McKenzie.
He is survived by his wife, Etsuko (Matsukawa) McKenzie; two sons, Mark J. McKenzie and James E. McKenzie; a his sister Sharon.
A visiting hour will be held on Thursday morning, August 1, 2024 from 9:00 to 10:00 am at the Hatfield Funeral Home, 830 South Highway 92 Sierra Vista. A chapel service will follow with Military Honors at 11:00 am at the Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1300 Buffalo Soldier Trail, Sierra Vista.
