Mary Quartuccio Obituary

Mary Louise Quartuccio
June 20, 1941 - February 8, 2025

Mary Louise Quartuccio (Rayburn) was born to Geoffery Douglas Rayburn and Amelia Bell Miller on June 20, 1941, in Ft. Worth Texas. Mary attended Birdville high in Haltom City Texas, class of 1959. Mary married at a young age and had three sons, one in 59’, 60’, and 66’. Her adventure in young motherhood and marriage took her to San Francisco, Ca. When her father died in 1960, her mother moved to California to help her raise her sons. She worked for Fairchild Semi-Conductor in San Jose California from 1965-74, in this time she became a single mother. On September 19th, 1974, she married again to Joseph Quartuccio, gained 3 stepchildren and they added two girls one born in 76’ and later in 79’. They finally settled down in Sacramento, Ca.

Mary became a devout catholic and was very involved volunteering her time at St. Charles Borromeo catholic church and school on Center Parkway in Sacramento. She spent her time helping the nuns, watching lunch recesses at the school and on Sunday’s teaching catechism classes. When she was not teaching at the school on Sundays, she volunteered her time as a brownie and junior troop leader for the Girl Scouts. She loved teaching.  Due to military base closures, her husband was transferred to Ft. Huachuca, Az and in 1993 they made Sierra Vista, Az their home.

Moving to a new city and starting over was not easy for Mary. With her girls being teenagers and one already graduated from high school. Mary got a job with Ace Hardware on Fry Blvd. and worked for years until her mother fell ill and she had to retire. When her husband passed in 2002, she reached out to St. Andrews catholic church and started teaching 4th grade catechism classes. Mary did this for several years and it gave her much happiness.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents Geoffery Rayburn and Amelia Blain. Her husband Joseph Quartuccio. Her stepchildren Nick Quartuccio and Sydney Shearer, Her daughter Giovannina (Nina) VanHeyningen. She is survived by her sons Richard Driver (Jennifer) Belgrade, MT, Bob Driver (Rebecca) North Aurora, IL, Chris Driver (Jenny) Palatine, IL, her son in law Daniel VanHeyningen, Sierra Vista, AZ, her daughter Dorothy DeHart (Curtis) Sierra Vista, AZ and stepdaughter Tammy Barber, Evening Shade, AR. Also, many of her children’s friends that gave her the title of “second mom” or “Grandma”.

Mary was a loving wife, mother, Nana, great Nana, a little league team mom, a troop leader, a soccer mom, a catechism teacher, Daughter of the American Revolution and friend. She was funny, witty, strict, smart, and caring. She was a hard worker and accomplished many things she would set her mind too. She was also an amazing artist. She leaves behind a legacy and memories that will last a lifetime.

We would like to thank the nurses at Casa de la Paz Hospice for the care they gave our mother.

There will be a celebration of life at a later date.
