He was preceded in death by his parents, Luis & Josephine Chavez and

He is survived by wife, Barbara Chavez; Son Johhny Chavez (Maria),

Luis attended Bisbee Public Schools where he graduated in 1966 where was
a lineman on the football team. He was a copper Miner for Phelps Dodge In
Bisbee for nine years, a retired Mechanic for the Army and the Army
National Guard. He served our country, active duty, during Operation Desert
Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Luis was a good friend to so many
lifelong friends and coworkers who he kept in contact with by phone;\ and
through the Class of 66, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion
and many, many breakfast, lunch and dinner meetings with individuals and
groups of Classmates and Veteran friends. He attended Saint Patrick’s
Church in Bisbee and was a long time parishioner at Our Lady of the
Mountains Parish in Sierra Vista Arizona where he was active in the local
Knights of Columbus.
Luis built and raced cars in Bisbee in the early eighties, he & Barbara were
part of the Bisbee Van Club, and even have a trophy for “Vanner of the
month”! He and Barbara also enjoyed many years of riding his Harley
Davidson. His love of music , especially his favorite genres were late 50’s
and 60’s tunes along with the blues. Any time you walked into his garage,
you could expect to be serenaded with his music of the day! The evening
that he left us, family came home to the sound of his music playing from the
garage!!
So many friends and family have spoken about what a “good guy” he was.
He was a surrogate Father to many of his children’s friends…he was so kind
to everyone and there was never anything he would turn down when it
came to helping out! He was there for anyone who needed help of a tool, or
a rescue at any time of the night or day. He was a role model for so many of
us in today’s society, as he never looked for accolades or rewards for the
good deeds that he did.
He was such a good guy….he was quiet but was always there when anyone
needed him. One comment that a family member said when reminiscing
stands out when describing Luis: “He was always present!!”
Luis always helped Barbara with her work and multitudes of fundraisers
with her Moose’s Hot Dog Stand.
According to Barbara, she began calling Luis Moose one time in the late
eighties when he was being particularly stubborn; she said, “You Moose!”,
and the name stuck!
Any one who knew Luis will remember him in his “tuxedo of choice”, his
overalls!
Luis was loved and will be fondly remembered and greatly missed.
Godspeed, Louie!!
