Linda Garcia Obituary

Linda Garcia, age 80, of Sierra Vista, Arizona, passed away peacefully at home during the evening hours of Sunday, November 30, 2025. Linda was born on August 2, 1945, in Vancouver, Washington, but she moved to Bisbee (Warren district) at a very young age; and although work and family took her to other places and states during her adult life - she remained a passionate fan of Bisbee for her whole life. When asked where she grew up, she always answered, chin up and smiling widely - “Bisbee!”. She attended Greenway Elementary School, Lowell Junior High, and graduated Bisbee High School with the Class of 1958. She was a woman ahead of her time and was a passionate champion of women and women’s education; she attended Cochise College and took some college courses later in life as well—achievements that reflected her lifelong passion for learning and belief in personal growth, particularly through education. She was always an avid book lover and enjoyed an evening when she could curl up in the living room with her family watching TV while she had her book in her hand, which she was also known to fall asleep with. Linda always found a way to brighten our days by making sure to remember every birthday, anniversary, and important date in her family’s lives, including her children, grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews and even her friends’ lives. She was a thoughtful, generous gift giver who never failed to send a card (often with a little something extra inside!), write a letter, give a gift, make a call, or send you some chocolate (which was her absolute favorite treat!). She was a caring, attentive mother, always ready with a snack, a reminder about a coat or umbrella, or attending or running her kids from one dance lesson, sport, or concert to another. She was the one who got everyone where they needed to be, on time, and she was the family calendar, scheduler, keeper, and caregiver. She was a strong advocate for her husband, herself, her children, her family, and her friends. She was someone who showed up and could be counted on when needed. She was there for both her parents as they aged, including caregiving for her mother Geraldine Lynch until Ger passed away peacefully in Joe and Linda’s home. She tried to teach and show as many small and big life lessons as she could to help set her children up for future success in their own lives. She met her future husband, Jose (“Joe”) Garcia, in the early years of her career at Ft. Huachuca, when he was also a civil servant there. They bonded over a love for working in contracts procurement and administration and even in the later years of their marriage could regale people for an evening talking about their love of civil service and contracts. She was always proud of him, and his accomplishments. She wasn’t the biggest fan of dancing, unless she could get out on the dance floor with Joe by her side! Throughout their family moves to different states, he was her North star. She loved him so dearly. They shared nearly 55 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and perseverance. Linda enjoyed gardening, shopping, country music, and crafts. She could often be found in her craft room, making a wreath, painting a t-shirt, or glitzing up one of her legendary homemade sweat suits. She never sold them; she just loved to give these as gifts to family or friends. Linda had lifelong friendships that were very important to her. She loved those friends and tried to catch up and be there as much as she could for them, through visits across the United States, and many calls, letters, photos (not only of her kids but also of her treasured dog Mackie of course), and texts. Linda had a family history of military service and was always very happy she could do her part by becoming a lifelong civil servant. Her government work was deeply defined by service, and she was a strong advocate for government service. She started her civilian service career at Ft. Huachuca, for the Dept. Of Army, where she returned to as well years later near the end of her career. She raised through the ranks over the years from an entry level position to management. She was an excellent example to her family and peers of integrity, knowledge, experience, and advocacy in her work in contracts. She loved to read and be knowledgeable about the federal regulations that governed her work and would speak avidly about her job whenever given the chance. Her hard work led to a position at NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, where she enjoyed working on significant and interesting projects. After many years of accomplishments, accolades, and faithful service, she retired from civil service working for the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. Immediately thereafter, in the early 2000’s, she returned to Sierra Vista along with her husband Joe, who was born in Brown Canyon. While Linda made sure to make a home for her family wherever they moved to, Arizona was her beloved state. Linda was proud once again to call Sierra Vista her home and loved to sit outside in the temperate Sierra Vista evenings watching an Arizona sunset over her favorite mountains while the lights of the cars coming down the mountain twinkled like fireflies, and she held hands with her beloved “honey” Joe. Linda is survived by her husband and best friend, Joe, her children Ronald “Ron” (Christine) , Katherine “Kitty” (Gerald), and Tiffany; her brother Michael “Mike”, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins, nephews, and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, and daughter Rita. Special appreciation and gratitude to her niece Miranda and cousin Tracie for their help during this difficult time. Linda’s legacy lives on through her family and friends, who will cherish her memory. Please join us Friday, December 12th for the Service and Internment at 11:30at the Cochise Memory Gardens, 5590 E.
