Leila Mae Thompson
July 13,1933 - March 7, 2025
Leila Thompson, 91, passed away peacefully on March 7th, 2025 at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield, North Carolina.
Leila was born in Douglas, Arizona, the second of three children to William Claude Huish Jr. and Ora Mae Schwantes. She was raised in Elfrida, Arizona, where she met the love of her life, Angus H. Thompson. They were married in the Mesa Arizona Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and built a life together, raising three children. Her journey took her to Emmett, Idaho, and Seattle, Washington, before Leila spent her final years surrounded by family in Raleigh, North Carolina.
A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Leila lived a life centered around faith and family. She worked as a dedicated kindergarten teacher’s aide and was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was an accomplished baker, crafter, gardener, and had a special fondness for raising chickens.
Leila was preceded in death by her beloved husband Angus Thompson, and her borther, Carl Huish. She is survived by her eldest brother Claude Henry Huish; her three children Stephen, Kevin, and Alissa; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday March 15th, 2025 at 10 a.m. at Whitewater Cemetery in Elfrida, AZ.
