LaMeta Benford Obituary

Her Life & Family

LaMeta Marie Benford (68) was born to Cornelius E. and Clarissa O. Jackson in Chicago, Il.
LaMeta graduated from Harlan S. High School in 1971. While in college LaMeta rededicated
her life to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, making Faith Temple Church of God in Christ
her home church. LaMeta graduated from Northern Illinois University with a Bachelor's in
Science degree in Elementary Education (May 1975). While waiting for her teaching
assignment she worked at the Museum of Science and Industry; where she really enjoyed
working as a guide lecturer, which afforded her many opportunities with in the museum.
LaMeta's first teaching assignment led her to Hiram Belding Elementary School on the
North Side of Chicago. She loved teaching first/second grade combination classes; a task
that proved challenging with so many accelerated students. Her devotion to teaching the 6-7
year olds, led to parents recognizing her teaching excellence, as well as the District
Superintendent to the Board of Education.

Talk about your overseas travel: 1979 Jamaica and Haiti. 1980 Liberia, West Africa &
London, England.

Love and marriage changed the picture: James Benford married LaMeta on July 28, 1984
and whisked her away to Northern California. LaMeta was called to work at Hope Christian
Academy in Oakland, CA. She finished the then current school year, a summer program and
one more year, leaving the school with a fully realized Science Program.

The wonderful and powerful experiences at Life changing Brach's Candy Company for 6
years as a member of the top selling sales group in the U.S. LaMeta then became active in
the following ministries: Open Door Ministries East Bay Faith Center-Pastors Mark & Brenda
Thomas and Liberty Christian Centers - Pastors Richard & Joan West.

After 10 years of marriage came the birth of her only child, son James Cornelius. LaMeta
chose to become a stay at home mom, working with and advocating for James who was
diagnosed with juvenile diabetes at a very young age. James has since grown up to be a
healthy young man who has attended college and is now a graphic arts designer. James has
used his skills to make elegant images for his loving mom and dad on their birthdays and
holidays throughout the years.

The family moved to Hawaii for 2 years, followed by their last move to Sierra Vista, AZ,
where she and her husband continued to work in ministry at Mountain View Gardens
Retirement Facility as volunteer chaplains.
