LTC Jimmie Don Rawls
United States Army Veteran, Retired
Jimmie Don Rawls, a United States Army Veteran, proudly served his country from 1957 to 1987. While in service to his country he achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel working as a Signal Officer. He earned many medals and commendations to include the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Meritorious Service Medal 2nd Award, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, 2 Overseas Service Bars, Overseas Service Ribbon 3rd Award, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Army Service Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Vietnam Service Medal 4th Award, and the Meritorious Service Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters. Lieutenant Colonel Rawls’ final duty station was Fort McPherson, Georgia where he retired and was honorably discharged on July 31, 1987.
Jimmie Don Rawls, age 87, died on Sunday, March 1 in Hereford, AZ. He was born on November 19, 1938, at Toledo, Cleveland County, AR to John Calvin Rawls and Florence Mable Gracie Rawls. He was a 1956 graduate of Rison High School.
Preceding him in death were his parents, a son, Jimmy Don Rawls; three brothers and sisters-in-law: JC (Mary Ellen) Rawls , Calvin (Patsy) Rawls, and Dewey (Willie Maud) Rawls; one sister, Lois Johnson (Roy) Wachner and her first husband, Gilbert H. Johnson.
Surviving are his wife Bonnie of 33 years, his daughters, Judy (Rick) Carmack, Lisa Tabor, Hettie Tabor, Carl (Elisha) Tabor Jr., Lorraine Bertetto and son-in-law, Chris; grandchildren: John Calvin (Sarah) Rawls, Jennifer (Matt) Drew, James (Brandy) Turner; Jacob Tabor, Jared Tabor, and Talon Tabor; great-grandchildren: Alexis, Andrew, Addison, Jackson, Jace, Jameson, William, ; one brother, Joe (Annette) Rawls, plus a number of nieces and nephews.
Jimmie Don was a proud American, Vietnam Veteran, and Dallas Cowboys and Arkansas Razorback fan.
Visitation is Friday, March 6, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Hatfield Funeral Home in Sierra Vista, Arizona.
