Karen Ellingson Obituary

Karen Ellingson
March 12, 1942 - January 20, 2025

Karen Ellingson, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, peacefully passed away on January 20, 2025, surrounded by loved ones at her home. After a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease, she departed this world with the same grit and determination that characterized her entire life.

Born in 1942 in Fairmount, Minnesota, Karen's life was a vibrant tapestry woven with love, laughter, and an indomitable spirit. She was married twice, first to Larry "Shorty" Lawrence (deceased), with whom she raised three sons - Gary (Sheryl), Greg (Diane), and Steven (Jodi) – and a cherished daughter, Dawn.

In 1979, she married the love of her life, Michael Ellingson, enjoying 45 years of loving companionship until his passing in 2024. Her family expanded to include stepchildren Sarah (Scott) Vallier and Clinton (Stephanie) Ellingson, along with numerous sisters-in-law, including Bonita Brummond. Karen was blessed with 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and the joyful anticipation of another on the way.

Known for her infectious giggle and radiant, mischievous smile, Karen was a whirlwind of energy, always surrounded by friends and family, creating cherished memories that will last a lifetime. Her playful spirit delighted in pranks and funny jokes, while her generous heart led her to volunteer countless hours for community events, including Project Graduation, the Oktoberfest at the Elks Club, and anyone in need.

Professionally, Karen excelled in various office roles, forging lifelong friendships along the way. A devoted military wife, she instilled strong values in her family, exemplified by her memberships in the Lutheran church, American Legion, and Elks Club. Her commitment to God, country, and community was unwavering, and she generously shared her wisdom with younger military wives and families. Travel was a passion for Karen, especially visiting family and attending George Strait concerts and her grandchildren.

Karen is now reunited with her beloved husbands, son Gary, daughter Dawn, brother Leroy, and her devoted parents, Theodore and Edna Brummond, carrying with her the values and kindness they imparted. A special thank you to "Super Steve" and his team of "Wonder Women" for their unwavering support and care for Karen.

Karen Ellingson leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and kindness that will forever be cherished by all who knew her. Her spirit will continue to inspire us to embrace life with joy and treasure every moment with our loved ones. Rest in paradise, Mom. We "love you more."
