Judith Cork Obituary

Judith Kay Cork, 85, of Sierra Vista, AZ left her physical being on December 26, 2023. Judy was born on September 21, 1938 to James and Vera Robertson in Alton, IL.

Judy lived in the Sierra Vista area on and off since the early 60’s, but Sierra Vista became her permanent hometown in 1972.

Judy married the love of her life, Larry, in 1966 and they had 2 children, Tracy and Terry. Her marriage to Larry also gave her two bonus daughters, Linda and Beverley. Judy is survived by her 4 children, Tracy (Doug) Van Gorden, Terry Cork, Linda (Gary) Van Buren, and Beverley (Pete Schumann), and her sister Linda (Richard) Ebrey; Grandchildren Allyson (Lee) Miller, Kaitlyn (Juan) Ramos, Dyllan (Christina) Cork, Dominique (Jessica) Zirbel, Chandler Cork, Ryan and Samma Van Buren, Stephanie (Chris) Kush, Adam (Amanda) Schumann, Julian (Alexandria) Van Gorden, and numerous Great Grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Judy was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sisters Sharon Stahlschmidt, Carol Robertson, and Phyllis Pitts, and her brother James Robertson.

Judy worked as a telephone operator for Alton Bell Telephone in the late 50’s, manually relaying calls on a central switchboard connected to subscribers’ wires. She also worked as a Secretary for the U.S. Army at Ft Huachuca and retired in 1991 so that she and Larry could become full-time grandparents. Judy was an avid reader and staunch supporter of Friends of the Sierra Vista Public Library bookstore, a non-profit organization that uses generated funds to support children and adult literacy programs. She served as a volunteer since 2009 and also served on the Board of Directors as a Member at Large from January 2013 through 2023. She was instrumental in the move of the bookstore from its original tiny, cramped location to its current location on Fry Blvd. Her tenure at the bookstore and interactions with her customers was something she enjoyed very much.

Judy was a very crafty person and enjoyed making homemade items for her friends and family. She was known for her amazing talents in quilting, sewing, knitting, and crocheting, and eagerly passed on her love of crafting to her kids and grandkids.

Judy will be remembered for the enlightenment, fulfillment, and joy she brought to everyone she knew. Her zeal for life, contagious smile and laughter, and always going the extra mile for her friends and family, are what we will miss the most.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the banquet room at Mimosa’s Pizzeria, 4755 E Neapolitan Way, Hereford, AZ on Saturday, December 30 at 1pm.
