Juan’s Barbering Legacy Juan Murrieta (16 FEB 1943 – 14 JUL 2025) spent his final days before transitioning into the afterlife surrounded by his beloved wife, Lucia, his stepsons and stepdaughter, his grandchildren, and cherished friends and family. Juan began his career at a young age as a shoe shiner in Sonora, Mexico. Juan started his career at a young age as a shoe shiner in Sonora, Mexico. One day, he walked into a barbershop to shine shoes, and as time went on, one of the barbers taught Juan how to cut hair and at just 14 years old, Juan began working as a barber in Sonora. By his early twenties, he owned and operated a barbershop in Naco, Mexico. In 1969, Juan became a naturalized U.S. citizen and officially moved from Naco to Sierra Vista, Arizona, making it his new home. He continued his barbering career at Dick’s Barber Shop alongside the late Dick Brooks and later at Al’s Barber Shop. In 1970, Juan secured the barbering service contract at Fort Huachuca’s NCO Club, which he held until 1978. During that time, he also worked at one of the dining facilities on post, supporting Soldiers in training prior to their deployment in support of the Vietnam War. In 1978, inspired by the dream of building something of his own, Juan partnered with his late brother, Edmundo Murrieta, to open a family-run barbershop. While Juan began laying the foundation for the new business, Edmundo completed the barbering service contract at the NCO Club. Juan’s Barber Shop officially opened its doors on February 28, 1979. Over the years, the business evolved into a true family enterprise. Edmundo’s wife, Margarita Murrieta, joined the team in 1985, followed by Juan’s stepsons—Ramón Vazquez in 2000 and Raúl Vazquez in 2004. In 2006, Ramón and Margarita became the new owners, continuing the legacy Juan built with care and craftsmanship. In 2022, Juan’s stepdaughter, María Vazquez-Faría (Lulú), also joined the team. Today, Juan’s Barber Shop proudly features a staƯ of 19 barbers and 14 barber stations. More than just a business, it remains a symbol of family and community—where employees and customers become lifelong friends. Juan’s dedication, skill, and spirit live on in every haircut and every handshake. We invite you to join us in honoring the life and legacy of Juan Murrieta—a beloved father, grandfather, husband, career barber, and true pillar of our community.
