Goodbye, old friends, I’m going now,
I’ve known you many years,
And though I never shall return,
They’ll be no need for tears.
For life is but a silver cord,
And some day it must break,
But death is just a peaceful sleep
From which all shall awake.
This tired body rests at last,
I’ll suffer pain no more.
A place of refuge, safe, I’ve found
My troubles are now o’re.
Don’t think of me as being dead
I’ve only gone away
I’ve just been visiting for awhile,
I did not come to stay.
For who of us would want to live,
In this cold world forever?
A mansion bright has been prepared
For us beyond the river.
So with this thought I’ll say: “Goodbye”,
It shall not be farewell,
For we shall meet again some day,
How soon, no one can tell.
I’ll watch for you from Heaven’s gates
Up yonder in the sky,
And now, until that day shall come,
“Goodbye, old friends, goodbye”.
