John Hill Obituary

John David Hill passed away peacefully on Friday, August 23, 2024 at the Tucson VA Medical Center. John was born January 16, 1954, in Bartow, Florida.

His parents, Alvin Hill and Annie Ruth Tew, and his older brother, Gene, probably knew from the beginning that John would be a handful. John was quite fond of his brother and often told stories about their escapades. To hear him tell it, old Florida was filled just filled with adventure and baby alligators ready take home and put in the bathtub. He spent his teenage years playing football and scuba diving, two passions he carried throughout his life.

John retired from the Army in 2001, having had his fill of the adventures that only the military can provide. He served in many units, but the ones he remembered best were his many years at Fort Bragg and his years as an instructor at Fort Huachuca. His retirement was spent adopting any stray that happened by, sometimes including people, because he believed that everyone should have a home.

John dearly loved his four children and boasted about them regularly: David, Samantha, Missy, and Haley.

In recent years, John fought yet another battle, this time with cancer. His long struggle with this disease and his life was symbolized by the faith and courage to keep fighting despite unlikely odds.

A memorial service will be held in spring at the family cemetery in Arkansas.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in John's name to your local animal shelter.

The family would like to thank the medical professionals, nurses, and hospice staff who worked so earnestly on his behalf.
