John Andrew "Andy" Bodie May 10, 1965 - August 24, 2024 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Andrew “Andy” Bodie on August 24, 2024, at the age of 59. Andy passed peacefully at home, surrounded by those dearest to him. Born on May 10, 1965, in Topeka, Kansas, he primarily grew up in Arizona. Andy was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a proud Navy veteran.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Jhona Bodie; his children, Jennifer Schoonover, Jessica McNally, and John Bodie IV; and his cherished grandchildren, Kyla Schoonover, Kirra Edwards, Michael McNally Jr., and Cecilia McNally.
Andy enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1983, dedicating 21 years of honorable service to his country before retiring as a Petty Officer First Class in 2004. He proudly served overseas in support of Operation Desert Storm, the Global War on Terror, and Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). His naval career took him across the globe, serving aboard the USS Enterprise, USS Midway, USS Abraham Lincoln, and USS Belleau Wood. Some of his key assignments included Washington, the Philippines, the Persian Gulf, Japan, Guam, and Hawaii, where he and his wife raised their children. After retiring in 2004, they returned to Sierra Vista, AZ, to be closer to family, and Andy remained an active part of the community ever since. After his military retirement, Andy continued serving as a civil servant for another 20 years, most recently working as a Museum Exhibit Specialist at the Ft. Huachuca Historical Museum where he enjoyed sharing the U.S. military history of the Southwest as well as being sought out to complete high visibility graphics for military projects across Sierra Vista.
Andy’s creativity and passion for graphic design were a special bond he shared with his family. He continued to pursue this love throughout his life. Known for his kindness and warmth, Andy was always striving to help others, particularly his extended family in the Philippines. He strongly believed in the power of education and worked tirelessly to provide opportunities for his relatives, helping them break the cycle of generational poverty. Above all, Andy was a loving and protective husband and father who found great joy in traveling the world with his family. He cherished their trips to Bellows Beach and lived by strong family values, which he instilled in his children and grandchildren. His love and support touched countless lives, and his legacy of service, love, and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A memorial service to honor Andy’s life will be held on August 31, 2024, at 10:00 AM, at Hatfield Funeral Home in Sierra Vista, AZ.
