Joan A ‘Joanie’ Pool
May 1, 1940 - May 13, 2022
Joan A “Joanie” Pool Passed away unexpectedly on May 13, 2022 at the age of 82. She was born May 1, 1940 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania to Agnes and Louis Oeller.
At a young age Joanie moved to Bisbee and attended Bisbee High School. She met and married Donald Hannon and together had two boys, Donald “Aubrey” and Anthony “Tony” Hannon. As life happens, and after 30 years of marriage, they parted but she remained friends with him and his family. She married John “Jay” Pool in the 1990’s and they enjoyed working on their property, especially the fish pond. After Jay passed away in 1999, Joanie remained at their ranch, taking on many rattlesnakes. After her son Tony died in 2012 her son-in-law Travis Pratt remained in her life to take care of her and be her best friend and newly adopted son. They enjoyed lots of trips, worked crossword puzzles together on sunday, ate out frequent dinners, trips to the casino, watched football games together, long phone conversations on Sunday, and remained as an everlasting support system to each other.
Joanie's favorite bird was the red cardinal and she loved the color purple. She enjoyed homemade fudge and candy from her son in law's mom in West Virginia, and listening to music with her son in law at the Copper Queen Hotel sipping Bloody Marys or margaritas on the weekends. She and Travis enjoyed landscaping together their property out in the desert and making it a home and garden masterpiece for anyone stopping by to visit and enjoy.
Joanie had the gift of making you feel loved and special. She never met a stranger and was very generous to anyone who needed a favor. She always had a vast amount of knowledge and stories to tell to keep you entertained from her childhood and life and was always a positive motivated lady who made the best of any struggles in life and tried to see the good in every person she met.
Joanie was most known around town due to her vast knowledge of floral arrangements and deliveries, as having worked for Ruth's Flower Shop, Sierra Vista Flowers, and Bloom Country Florist. She took pride in putting a smile on everyone’s face, no matter the occasion. After Ruth's Flowers closed she worked at Ace Hardware in Bisbee.
Joanie was a dedicated member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church in bisbee. She was actively involved with the Bisbee Senior Center, taking part in their bingo, Wii bowling, and taking on the duty of “egg cooker” for the monthly breakfasts. For 13 years she donated many hours to the American Red Cross blood drive. No matter the weather, they could count on her.
Joanie was an avid fan of the world series having manually tracked each and every game from 1961 to present. And you could always count on her being in every football pool she could find, of course, always rooting for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Joanie's love of animals, especially dogs, will be remembered. She never met a dog that didn’t love her and she routinely took care of others’ dogs so they could enjoy a vacation without worrying.
Joanie is preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Donald Hannon, husband Jay Pool, and son’s Aubrey and Tony Hannon. She is survived by her son-in-law Travis Pratt of Moorefield, West Virginia. brother Louis Oeller Jr, and many, many friends and animals.
A memorial service will be held at the Covenant Presbyterian Church in Bisbee on 29 June 2022 at 11:00 am followed by a covered dish dinner and celebration of life at the Hitching Post directly after the memorial service.
Her energy and kindness will be missed by all and we love her very much.
