Joan Long (Joanie), 64, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 5, 2025, in Sierra Vista, Arizona. She was born on June 3, 1961, to Robert and Viola (Vige) Long in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
Joanie loved life with every ounce of her being. A tumultuous childhood didn’t stop her—in fact, it inspired her to push harder with zeal and expectation. She wore many hats throughout her life, working in television, real estate, and a fabulous hairdresser. Later, she found herself in Arizona, where she pursued her passion for panning gold in the desert and collecting precious metals. Joanie was truly a force to be reckoned with. At the center of it all, she was a devoted believer in Christ.
She is survived by her devoted partner, Steve Peterson, who shared a loving and committed relationship with Joanie for many years. Their bond was a testament to enduring love and companionship. Left to cherish her memory is her sister, Peggy Long, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Janice Long, Mary Nell Long, Jackie Benoit, Gayle Richard, and Robert Lynn Long.
Joanie’s final wishes were to be buried in Bigfoot, Texas. A gathering of friends and family will be announced at a later date.
