Jeffery Carr Ferris, 70, passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 after a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. He was surrounded by family.
Born June 4, 1954, in the small town of Oelwein, Iowa, Jeff was the third of four children.
In 1972, he joined the U.S. Army and served until 1975. He then studied at Des Moines Community College and San Jose Christian College, and then re-joined the U.S. Army in 1980 in Military Intelligence and Signal Corps. Though he spent the majority of his time in the service in Sierra Vista, AZ, he was stationed in several places, including Germany, South Korea, and Massachusetts. He retired from service in 1998 as Chief Warrant Officer III from Fort Huachuca.
Jeff married Janet Koch on July 28, 1979 in Des Moines, Iowa, where they started their 45-year journey. They welcomed 3 children into the world: William Jeffery (b. 1983), Michael John (b. 1984), and Daniel James (b. 1991).
The Ferris family was an atypical military family and didn’t move around a lot, and they knew Sierra Vista as their home for most of their lives. Upon retirement, Jeff and Janet stayed in Sierra Vista, and Jeff joined the Department of Defense as an Information Technology Manager, starting in 1998. He retired from government service in 2021.
Jeff could brighten up a room in an instant with his million-dollar laugh, and he deeply loved his family more than anything. He encouraged naughty behaviors of all the family dogs by sneaking them treats constantly, enjoyed cross-country trips with Janet in their RV, and was blessed with a beautiful and loving family. He was a man of faith and touched many people’s hearts and lives. He instilled self-discipline and a strong work ethic into each of his children and was an exemplary father and husband. Jeff was a kind, gentle, and strong man who was incredibly loved and will be deeply missed, far and wide.
He is survived by his loving wife, Janet, his 3 sons: Bill (Abby), Mike (Vanessa), and Danny (Johanna), three grandchildren Emayliah (Emma), Sophia, and Lily, his brother, Jerry, and his sister, Sharon.
He is pre-deceased by his father, Jerome Ferris, mother, Neva Ferris, and younger brother, Brian Ferris.
Viewing will be held on Monday, October 14 from 5-7 pm at Hatfield Funeral Home at 830 South Highway 92 Sierra Vista, AZ, and the funeral will be on Tuesday, October 15 at 10 am at Southern Arizona Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery at 1300 Buffalo Soldier Trail, Fort Huachuca, AZ, followed by reception at The Ferris house at 2636 Ridge Crest St. Sierra Vista, AZ.
