Jay Kenner LaBrecque
July 8, 1935 – March 22, 2026
With profound sadness and faith in the promise of eternal life, the family of Jay Kenner LaBrecque, age 90, announces his passing on March 22, 2026. Jay passed peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones.
Jay was born on July 8, 1935, in Spring Canyon, Utah. He lived a life defined by strength, service, dedication, humor, and deep love for his family.
Jay proudly served his country for 47 years through both the United States Air Force and Government Civil Service. He held the rank of Sergeant and devoted his career to highly specialized work in computer engineering, airborne radar systems, cryptology, and contract management. His years of service reflected his intelligence, discipline, technical skill, leadership, and unwavering commitment to his country.
Jay was a rugged and tough man on the outside, but those who knew him best knew his softer side well. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved making people laugh. Whether through jokes or acting out something silly just to get a giggle, Jay had a playful spirit that brought joy to those around him. Beneath his strong exterior was a man who cared deeply and loved fully.
He found joy in life’s simple and meaningful moments. Jay loved keeping up with the news, watching his children, grandchildren and neighborhood kids play and taking peaceful walks in nature. He enjoyed going out for coffee to spend time with his buddies and especially treasured quiet mornings watching the sunrise. One of his favorite places was the beautiful backyard his beloved wife created — a peaceful Asian Zen garden where he often sat each morning, taking in the beauty of the day and thanking God for another sunrise.
Jay loved a good western movie, especially Lonesome Dove, and enjoyed the timeless music of Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, and Hank Williams. He had a special love for animals, particularly horses and dogs.
Jay is survived by his beloved wife, Hea Ja Kim LaBrecque; his son, Michael Raymond LaBrecque and spouse Deirdre LaBrecque; his daughter, Jennifer LaBrecque and spouse Tyler Deterville; his grandchildren, Garret LaBrecque and Rogan Deterville; and his sister, Lynda Kay LaBrecque.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Michelle Joanna Barker; his brother, Allen Drew LaBrecque; his mother, Dora LaBrecque; and his father, Raymond LaBrecque.
Jay will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His legacy is one of service, resilience, laughter, and love. He leaves behind cherished memories and a lasting impact on all who knew him. While our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in our faith and in knowing he is now at peace in the presence of the Lord. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
