James Michael "Mike" Haws
June 30, 1953 – July 7, 2025
James Michael “Mike” Haws, 72, passed away on July
7, 2025, in Sierra Vista, Arizona. Born in Luverne and raised
in Brantley, Alabama, Mike served in the U.S. Army before
continuing his service with the Alabama National Guard,
retiring as a Sergeant (E5) in 2000.
In 2019, Mike and his wife, Melissa, relocated to
Arizona to be closer to family. Known for his dry wit and
distinct sense of humor, Mike enjoyed classic television and
movies, especially Star Trek, Clint Eastwood Westerns, and
. He loved music from the 1960s and 70s—particularly The
Beatles—and always kept a good book nearby, eager to
learn something new. He also loved to go fishing and was a
proud Alabama football fan–Roll Tide!
Mike is survived by his wife, Melissa S. Haws; daughter
Theresa A. Haws (Brandon A. Radford); son Cameron T.
Haws (Joetta L. Haws); and grandchildren Triston R.
McHenry, Jayden S. D’Angelo, and Isabella W. Radford. He
is also survived by his sister, Sharon Johnson; niece Traci L.
Johnson; niece Casey Haws (Eric Stafford), and their
children Malaya, Elijah, and Noah Stafford; and nephews
Derrick & Drew Haws.
A memorial service is planned for Sunday, July 20,
2025, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the VFW in Sierra Vista, Arizona.
