James Ottie West Jr.
February 28, 1947 ~ May 26, 2025
On May 26, 2025, James O. West went to be with the Lord he faithfully served for 78 years. Jim was born February 28, 1947 in Baltimore, Maryland to J. Ottie and Loie West. He grew up on the Chesapeake Bay and joined the U.S. Army in 1965. During his service in Germany, he started corresponding with a nurse in Hereford, Arizona. After a series of providential events, he met the love of his life, Sandra Weik. The two were married in 1969 in Bisbee, Arizona.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, J. Ottie and Loe West; his brother, Dennis West; and his daughter, Kathryn Ann West. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sandra West; son Brad (Tonya) West; daughter, Kimberly (Reynaldo) Vargas; four grandchildren, Tyler and Kelsey West and Reynaldo and Isileli Vargas; and three nephews, David West, Roger West and Mike Williams.
Jim loved people. He never met a stranger and could talk to anyone about anything. He will be profoundly missed.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, June 6 at the Church of Palominas at 10:00 AM , 10466 E Highway, Palominas, Arizona 85615. Committal service with military honors will follow at the Southern Arizona Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 1300 Buffalo Soldier Trail, Sierra Vista, Arizona 85635, at 2:00 PM.
