MSG James Hubert Peery
United States Army, Retired
September 24, 1936 ~ April 6, 2026
MSG James Hubert Peery, 89, a 54-year resident of Sierra Vista, peacefully passed away Monday, April 6, 2026, at his home. He was born September 24, 1936, in Pearisburg, VA, the son of Mattie C. Whitmire (Wells).
James (affectionately known as "Jay') proudly served more than 23 years in the U.S. Army, retiring in 1986. His military career included multiple tours in Korea, Germany, and many stateside locations. He served 18 months in Vietnam as a member of the Blackhorse Regiment. After retiring in 1986, James engaged his entrepreneurial spirit to launch a number of businesses in the community, including Peerco Enterprises and "The Livingroom." He was a staunch supporter of numerous organizations, including the NAACP, VFW, American Legion, and the Southwest Buffalo Soldiers Association. Additionally, he made generous donations to countless charitable organizations across the globe.
James was preceded in death by his wife of 31 years, Darlyne Pearl Peery (Wilson). He brought to their union one son, Courtney Brazley (Michelle), and they had five additional children: Stacie Mitchell, Stephanie Pfeifer, Sloane Peery, Standish Peery, and Samuel Peery.
Jay was blessed to have found love a second time and shared 20 years of marriage with Sieglinde (Linda) Peery (Zurmuehln).
James is survived by his loving wife, Linda; all six of his children; five grandchildren, Brandon Mitchell (Sandra), Reuben Pfeifer (Tasha), Tawsha Brazley, Semaj Peery, and Myles Peery; two great-grandsons, Kayden Coker and Jazir Mitchell; and a host of cousins, nephews, and friends.
Those who knew "Jay" will remember him for his impeccable style, spontaneous wit, unwavering honor, quiet grace, attachment to a pool cue, love of a well-made hat, and his overall decency. He was a man of high standards and integrity. Those who knew him were lucky, those who loved him were fortunate, and those he loved were truly blessed.
The family will receive friends at Hatfield Funeral Home, 830 S. Hwy. 92, Sierra Vista, on April 17 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., immediately followed by a full military honors interment at the historic Post Cemetery on Fort Huachuca.
