James Edward Burns
"Bugeye"
January 31, 1951 -June 19,2024
It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of our beloved brother Jim. Jim passed away from natural causes in his home in Sierra Vista,AZ at 73 years of age.
Jim was the youngest son of William and Margaret Tomaso Burns and the little brother of John Burns, Bob Burns, Jerry Burns, Bill Burns (deceased), and Peggy Burns Brindle.
In 1969, Jim joined the US Navy along with his dear friend Dave Deasy. After his service, Jim moved to California to join some of his family and went to work in the air freight industry in logistics. He lived most of his adult life in the Bay Area of California. He managed to do quite a bit of traveling, but no matter where he went, he had left his heart in Cortland. He dearly loved and never forgot his friends, especially from the class of '69.
Jim was kind, thoughtful, caring, quick witted and a friend to all. He was always so much fun to be around. Jim was an avid lover of sports, but he really loved nature, starting as a young kid fishing off the banks of the Tioughnioga River with his east end neighborhood friends. He cared deeply for his family and we hope that Jim knew how much we all loved him.
Jim was proud of and loved his time in the US Navy. His remains will be buried at sea by the USN in the Pacific Ocean near San Diego, CA.
