James “Jim” A. Bowen of Tombstone, AZ (71) passed away on January 23rd in Tucson, AZ. Jim was born October 30, 1950, in Douglas, AZ to Inez and William Bowen.
As the middle of three boys, Jim grew up in Bloomfield, NM and following graduation from Bloomfield High School attended DeVry Tech in Phoenix. Shortly after school, he joined the Army where he proudly served as a Communications Specialist at Fort Lewis (Joint Base Lewis McChord) and deployed in Vietnam and Korea.
Upon leaving the military Jim spent a successful career working the natural gas pipeline for Williams which saw the family moving between New Mexico, Wyoming, Washington, and Oregon - until his retirement in 2011 when he settled in Tombstone with his love, Karen.
Never one to sit idle, Jim started rodeoing at 50 years old, enjoyed hunting, was an avid car enthusiast - finding and restoring cars and engines with his son, and was one of the best rock hounds, and stone workers known in the industry.
Jim is survived by his loving wife Karen Bowen, son Shane (Jennifer) Bowen of Gig Harbor, WA; brothers Gary Bowen of Safford, AZ and Rick Bowen of Bloomfield, NM; and three grandsons - Shalon, Tyler, and Jacob.
There are no plans for services at this time as the family is planning private arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to the American Legion in Jim’s honor.
