SFC Ivan Williams
United States Army, retired
February 3, 1934 - April 28, 2024
Born on February 3,1934 a strong and simple man Ivan Williams put one thing above all else, family. As a young man in El Campo Texas, he cherished his mother and camaraderie that he had with his siblings. Eventually, he sought out a relationship with his father, moving away from the family he knew. This would be an experience that would mold his outlook on life and the kind of man he wanted to be.
After he arrived in California, a young Ivan picked up work at the water front docs for a short time to support his half siblings before joining the Army in August of 1958.
He traveled and worked hard, eventually being assigned to Korea where he spend two years courting his eventual wife Koom and proving to both the army and more importantly her family that his intentions were honorable and true.
The two married & started a family. Moving across Europe it was hard at times being apart but, Ivan and Koom were determined to make things work. He often told me, "One woman one wife. I will never marry again". Together they came back to the U.S. moving around before planting roots here in Sierra Vista.
Nothing was more important to Ivan than making sure his family never wanted for food, shelter, and happiness.
He was successful in accomplishing his goals.
Committal services with military honors will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at 10 AM at the Southern Arizona Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, located at 1300 Buffalo Soldier Trail, Sierra Vista, Arizona 85635. Those who wish to attend should arrive at the staging area at 09:30 AM.
