Homer Dean Obituary

We are extremely sad to announce the passing of Homer Scott Dean of Sierra Vista, Arizona. Homer passed on February 13, 2024 at the age of 92, due to complications of Parkinson’s Disease and the recent passing of his beloved wife, Carolyn.

He was one of 12 children, born on December 3, 1931 in Sutton, West Virginia, to Dana and Beulah Dean.

In 1967, after serving in the US Army during the Korean War, Homer moved with his family to Sierra Vista, Arizona. He was a global communications specialist for the US Government for nearly 40 years and enjoyed traveling the world on his special assignments.

Homer enjoyed fishing, golfing, watching sports, camping, and loved spending time with friends and family. For decades, he faithfully made the annual nationwide trek, trailer in tow, to be reunited with his West Virginia relatives. Homer had a magnetic personality and was a friend to everyone. He never met a stranger that he didn’t like. He could strike up a good conversation with anyone and was regularly recognized by acquaintances in public places, far and wide.

Homer is survived by his son Jeff Dean of Sierra Vista, Arizona; daughter Cheryl Kennedy of Tucson, Arizona; daughter Sandi Dean of Simi Valley, California; grandson Bradley Kennedy of Tucson, Arizona; sister Shelba Halstead of Summersville, West Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Carolyn Dean; parents Dana and Beulah Dean; and his 10 brothers and sisters.

Services for Homer and his wife Carolyn will be held at 11:00 a.m. on March 1, 2024 at the Southern Arizona Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery.
