It is with heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the passing of Gerald Eugene “Jerry” Dow, who peacefully went home to be with his Lord in the early morning hours of May 5, 2026, following a courageous seven-year battle with cancer and recurring complications. Though his earthly struggle has ended, his legacy of faith, service, and compassion will continue to live on in the countless lives he touched.
Born on May 13, 1944, in Worcester, Massachusetts, Jerry was the second of two sons born to Richard and Madeline Dow. Throughout his life, Jerry was guided by an unwavering faith in God and a deep desire to serve others, especially young people. From Massachusetts to California, and most recently Arizona, his life was marked by decades of dedicated community involvement and ministry.
Jerry devoted countless hours to mentoring and encouraging youth through scouting, youth soccer, surfing programs, teaching, and church service. In Sierra Vista, he became a beloved member of the community through his work as a substitute teacher in local schools, where his kindness, patience, and encouragement impacted generations of students. He also faithfully volunteered with the USO, always eager to serve military families and support those around him.
Everything Jerry did was rooted in his love for Jesus Christ and his heartfelt mission to help guide others toward faith, hope, and purpose. His generous spirit, servant’s heart, and steadfast dedication to his community reflected the values he cherished most.
Jerry is survived by his children, Jared Dow, Janel Huff, Joanna Dow, and James Dow; his former wife, Maxine Avila; and his beloved grandchildren, Reza Farinpour, Josiah Dow, and Kaira Dow. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Madeline Dow, and his brother, Richard Dow.
A funeral service honoring Jerry’s life will be held on Monday, May 11, 2026, at 10:00 AM at First Assembly of God Church in Sierra Vista, Arizona. Military honors will follow at Southern Arizona Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery.
The Dow family asks that you keep them in your prayers as they celebrate and remember a man whose life was wholly devoted to faith, family, service, and community. Jerry’s warmth, humility, and enduring love for others will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
