Genevieve Gil Obituary

Genevieve “Jenny” A. Gil
Genevieve “Jenny” A. Gil, 87, of Sierra Vista, passed away peacefully at home on September 15, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on January 1, 1938, in Prescott, Arizona, to Albert and Julia Alvarez, Jenny was a true New Year’s gift to her family. She grew up in Bisbee and graduated from Bisbee High School in 1956. In 1960, she married the love of her life, Maurice A. Gil, and together they shared 63 years of marriage, raising two sons, John Philip and David Maurice, whom she adored.
Jenny lived a life filled with kindness, devotion, and quiet strength. While in Bisbee, she worked as a teacher’s aide at Naco Elementary, where her warmth and patience left a lasting impression on the many children who affectionately called her “Mrs. Gil.” After the family moved to Sierra Vista in 1982, she brought that same joy and dedication to her work as a baker at Safeway. Her baked goods—and her smile—brightened the days of countless customers and coworkers until her retirement.
Family was at the heart of everything Jenny did. She was happiest when gathered with loved ones, whether around the dinner table, during holidays, or in simple everyday moments. Her nieces and nephews especially cherished her as a loving, fun, and caring aunt who always made them feel special.
Jenny was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Albert Alvarez, and her sisters Rachel Herrera and Lupe Rivera. She is survived by her sons John Philip and David Maurice, her sister Victoria Celaya, her brothers Juan and Rudy Alvarez, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.
Services will be held at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 800 Taylor Dr., Sierra Vista, on October 2, 2025. Rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m., followed by Mass at 10:30 a.m. with a reception to follow. Interment will take place at the Southern Arizona Veterans Cemetery, at 1:00 p.m.
Jenny’s family finds comfort knowing that her legacy of love, laughter, and faith lives on in all those who were blessed to know her.
