Ernest Francis Liedtke, 85, passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 30, 2025. He was born on September 24th, 1940 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Faye (Teleski) Liedtke and Ernest Paul Liedtke. He graduated from Massbaum high school In Philadelphia and then obtained his FCC license to become an electrician.
He served in the US Army from 1962-1964. He went through boot camp on Ft. Huachuca, Sierra Vista, AZ. He then transferred to Baumgarden, Germany where he studied ground surveillance. He returned to Philadelphia and met and Married Elizabeth McGonigle in 1972.
Ernest and Elizabeth relocated to Globe, Arizona after marriage and he worked in the copper mines of Globe Miami arizona as an Electrician in the mines for twenty years. Elizabeth worked as a school teacher on the nearby San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation. Ernest and Elizabeth relocated to Glendale, AZ upon semi-retirement and lived there for around twenty years . He relocated to Sierra Vista with his wife Elizabeth in October of 2022 to be close to their daughter. Ernest’s wife Elizabeth passed away on March 16, 2023.
He is survived by five children, Cheryl Liedtke, Michelle Liedtke, Gina Adams, Justin Liedtke, and Noah Liedtke. He also has four Grandchildren, Jade Vielma, Tyler Vielma, Cameron Bays, and Gianna Bays.
Family and friends are asked to meet on January 5th at the Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, 1300 Buffalo Soldier Trail, Sierra Vista, AZ for funeral services for Ernest at 12:00 pm. Burial will follow in the Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
