Sierra Vista-Elizabeth Ann (Lopez) Bowers, fondly known as Liz or Betty, passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2025 surrounded by her family at her home after a long fight with cancer at the age of 65.
Liz is survived by her husband Tom Bowers, her mother Elizabeth Lopez, her children, Megan E. Ofloy (husband; Erik), Tiffany M. Waller (Husband; Brian) and Sean P. Malone (wife; Olivia); her grandchildren, Jeremiah, Harrison, Eli, Isabelle, Rhett, Charlotte, Isaiah, Eleanor, and Flora; her brother Frank Lopez.
Liz was predeceased by her father, Frank F. Lopez, her first husband Jim Thorp, and a sister who died in infancy Yolanda Lopez.
Liz was born on May 26, 1960 in Tucson, Arizona. She graduated from Nogales High School, Nogales, Arizona in 1978. She served in the United States Marine Corp from 1978 to 1984 attaining the rank of Sergeant. After initial training at Parris Island, South Carolina she went to advanced training for Aviation Maintenance Administration at the Naval Air Station in Meridian, Mississippi.
Liz was a devoted mother and served for many years as a personal trainer and fitness instructor. She loved hiking, working out, reading, sports events, and spending time with her family. She loved God passionately and when able actively attended church to develop and grow herself spiritually. She was compassionate and was always doing activities, giving to, and praying for those less fortunate than her (especially the homeless). The world is greatly diminished by losing her.
Visiting hours for Liz will be held on Saturday morning, December 20, 2025 from 9:00 to 11:00 am at Hatfield Funeral Home, 830 South Highway 92, Sierra Vista, Arizona. Military Honors for Liz will follow her visitation at the funeral home at 11:00 am. with a funeral service at 11:15 am. with Minister Gale Trow will officiate.
Burial will be held on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at 10:00 am at the Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Buffalo Solider Trail, Sierra Vista.
