Edward Horace Schmehl, 76, of Albuquerque, New Mexico passed away December 7, 2023. He was born in Darby, Pennsylvania on November 8, 1947, to parents Horace and Emily Schmehl. He graduated from high school in 1966 and was drafted into the army after graduation. He served in the US Army for 3 years during the Vietnam War where he earned a Bronze Star for his service.
After completing his time in the Army, Edward settled in Sierra Vista, Arizona where he worked for Mountain Bell as a Central Office Technician. While in Sierra Vista he met and married his wife, Sylvia, in 1971 and raised 3 children in Sierra Vista. Edward was a proud citizen of Sierra Vista for most of his adult life and loved watching sports, in particular the University of Arizona men’s basketball team.
Edward was happiest at home with his family. He enjoyed watching old Westerns, reading, and watching documentaries.
Edward was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a kind, hardworking man who will be remembered for his technical expertise, kind-hearted nature and calm demeanor. He will be deeply missed by his family and many others.
Edward is survived by his wife of 52 years Sylvia; 3 children Ian (Melissa) of Heath, Texas; Jeramy (Rebecca) of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Nina (Jim) of Mesa, Arizona; six grandchildren, Sofia, Ava, Abby, Emma, Samuel, Eliana.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2023 in Sierra Vista, AZ at Hatfield Funeral Home from 9:00 to 11:30am. Immediately following will be a procession for internment with military honors, that will begin at 12 Noon at the Southern Arizona Veterans' Memorial Cemetery.
