Carolyn Joy Uhlig, age 75, of Sierra Vista, AZ, passed away on Sept 9, 2025 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born on June 7, 1950, in Oklahoma City, OK, to the late Nelda Jean Strange and Don Dee Chesshire.
She married the love of her life, Maynard (Mike) Uhlig on November 3, 1979. She was preceded in death by her husband, Maynard M. Uhlig, who passed away on March 1, 2021. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family more than anything. She enjoyed her trips to Wisconsin to spend time with her daughters and their families.
Carolyn is survived by her stepdaughters Barbara(Jeff) Seitz of Oshkosh, WI, Patricia (Johnny) Liebscher of Appleton, WI. She leaves behind three grandchildren, Brandon (Brenna) Uhlig, Abigail Bastic and Zachary Genal. She is also survived by her “Auntie” Coletta Wood of Sierra Vista, AZ.
Carolyn graduated from Hawthorne High School in California in1968 and attended various schools throughout Southern California. She had a distinguished 18-year career with the Civil Service, holding roles such as Clerical Administrative Secretarial, Customer Service Representative, and Medical Receptionist. Her achievements include various awards and certificates. She was an active volunteer, contributing to numerous recognitions.
In her leisure time, Carolyn enjoyed watching volleyball and basketball. She enjoyed participating in zumba and going to the gym. She was a member of Trinity Orthodox Lutheran Church in Sierra Vista, AZ, and was involved with the VFW Auxiliary, Disabled American Veterans (DAV), and Military Order of the Cootie (MOC) Auxiliary which was her true passion.
Carolyn had a deep and joyful passion for collecting bunny rabbits, a hobby that brought warmth to her life. Each rabbit told its own story and she was always happy to share those stories with you.
She had several loving friends from her church, VFW and her “birthday gals” and her dear friend, Cheryl Nickels. She will be missed immensely by her family and friends, but we find comfort in knowing she is now at peace with the Lord and reunited with Mike.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Via Elegante Assisted Living Center on Ramsey Road for their compassionate and dedicated care during her final days.
A service will be held on Saturday, Sept 13th at 11:00 AM at Trinity Orthodox Lutheran Church 4422 Snyder Blvd, Sierra Vista, AZ 85635 officiated by Rev. Steven Spencer. A reception will follow at Trinity Orthodox Lutheran Church. Carolyn will be laid to rest at Southern Arizona Veterans Cemetery alongside her husband, Mike.
