BROOKS, Byron David (Dave)
1942–2025 Sierra Vista, Arizona
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Byron David “Dave” Brooks—devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and loyal friend.
Born in Newberry, South Carolina in 1942, Dave’s early years were marked by family moves that eventually brought him to Sierra Vista, Arizona, and later Tucson. In 1963, he married the love of his life, Irene, and together they raised two sons, Mike and Dan.
After a long career at Arizona Portland Cement, Dave retired in 2002. He and Irene then fulfilled a lifelong dream by settling on the Oregon coast, where they spent many joyful years before returning to Sierra Vista.
Dave was a man of many passions, often found enjoying drag racing and car shows, piloting RC boats and planes, or casting a line for salmon on the Rogue River—all with his family by his side. His life was defined by generosity, integrity, and a quiet strength that inspired those around him.
He instilled in his sons the importance of kindness, hard work, and loyalty, and lived each day as a shining example of what it means to be a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
Dave is survived by his beloved wife, Irene; son Dan; daughter-in-law Michele; grandchildren Emily and Mike Jr.; and brother Jim.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roland and Lillie Mae Brooks; in-laws Max and Rosalie Schwartz; sister Rachel; and son Mike.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Dave’s memory may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research at www.michaeljfox.org.
