Barbara Ellen (Claflin) Cunning

Barbara E. Cunning, 88, of Sierra Vista, passed away on August 23, 2023, with loved ones at her side.

Barbara was the oldest daughter of Jeptha and Vera Claflin. At age four, Barbara's family lived in Gary, CO. Her father was a farmer in eastern Co. The family moved to the family farm just north of Woodrow around 1940. Right after she graduated High School, she married James Cunning, and they began their family.

They moved several times but finally landed in Arizona after retirement. Barbara was a loving wife and mother. She worked as a grocery store cashier in Delta for City Market. She always loved a good mystery. Agatha Christy was a favorite author. She enjoyed all kinds of puzzles, puzzle books, and coloring books. Barbara had beautiful cursive handwriting. She was very talented with hand embroidery and had completed many beautiful projects.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, James Emery Cunning, daughter  Vickie Swart, parents  Jeptha & Vera Claflin, Sister Nancy Harbert, and brother  Joseph Claflin.

Her surviving Daughters are Cheryl Cunning-McGee, Sierra Vista, AZ; Darla Edson Delta, Co; and Karen Ward Whetstone, AZ.

Barbara's surviving brothers and sisters are Kathleen Ely  Brush, CO.; Lyle Claflin, Idaho; Jean Wiltfang  Wray, CO; Betty Gish  Brush, Co; Wyane Claflin  Brush, Co; Patricia Turner  Whetstone, AZ. Barbara also is survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Family and friends will be gathered at the Hatfield Funeral Home, located at 830 S Hwy 92, Sierra Vista, Arizona, on Saturday, August 26, from 10:00 -11:00 AM.

Funeral services and interment will occur at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado, on Wednesday, September 6, at 10:00 AM.
