Alan Carey Gillespie
March 21, 1952 - June 12, 2025
Alan Carey Gillespie peacefully passed away on June 12, 2025, surrounded by his wife and children, after courageously fighting a seven-year battle with cancer.
Alan, born March 21, 1952, was the first of three children born to Jack Donald Gillespie and Cora Ruth Kelly. He was born premature with double pneumonia yet survived to bless the world for the next 73 years.
Alan was born in Beckley, WV, but moved with his parents to Detroit, MI when he was about one year old. He lived in Detroit until after he graduated from high school.
At the age of 20, Alan joined the United States Army. He served in multiple places to include Germany, San Francisco, and Vietnam.
After serving in the army, Alan moved to Colorado Springs. His time in Colorado brought significant life changing experiences for him. He was baptized as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on November 7, 1982. He also met and got engaged to Julia Mahany, who became the love of his life.
After moving to Sierra Vista, Alan and Julia were married on September 22, 1984 in the Mesa Arizona Temple. There they were sealed for time and all eternity and began a beautiful journey together. They were blessed with four children that filled his life with joy.
Alan was a beloved member of the Sierra Vista community for the past 42 years. He had a passion for computers and networking and enjoyed using his skills to serve many in the community throughout the years.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Cora Gillespie. He is survived by his wife of over 40 years, Julia Mahany Gillespie; children, Carrie, Katharine, Michael, and Patrick (Megan) Gillespie; sister, Teresa Komski; brother, Gary Gillespie; granddaughter, Kinsley; and nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held on June 26, 2025 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hatfield Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held June 27, 2025 at 9:30 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (1000 Taylor Dr). A committal service will follow at 12 p.m. at the Southern AZ Veterans Memorial Cemetery. The family would appreciate any special memories that are written and shared with them.
Alan will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew and loved him!
