Rhinehart 'Ron' Ligman Obituary

Rhinehart Henry Ligman
February 15, 1929 - March 23, 2024
United States Navy, Retired

Rhinehart H. Ligman (Ron), 95, of Sierra Vista, AZ passed away on March 23, 2024 at Haven Health. He was born to Peter and Ludmilla (Kuklinski) Ligman on February 15, 1929 in Morrill, MN.

Ron had many professions throughout life. In his younger years he worked as a cowboy in Miles City, MT, and also had some success as a stock car racer. He eventually enlisted in the Navy and retired in 1973 after serving 20 years in the Submarine Force. He continued to serve his country after his retirement working in the Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, WA. After his second retirement, he volunteered in the Laborers for Christ organization completing church construction and renovation projects in California and Arizona.

Ron and his wife, Esther, raised seven children. Their life in the Navy took them to Virginia, Connecticut, Washington, California, and Massachusetts. He and Esther moved to Sierra Vista in 2000 from Bremerton, WA and became involved in their church, Immanuel Lutheran. They sincerely enjoyed socializing with friends. Ron played a mean game of Phase 10 and Mexican Train dominoes, and also enjoyed playing the accordion.

After 73 years of marriage, Esther passed away in 2023 and left a space in Ron's life that he found hard to fill. He faced each day as best he could but nothing could make up for the loss of his dearest life companion. True to his nature, he stood up to life's challenges until the very end.

Ron was strong willed and stubborn at times, but he also had an enormous heart and a wonderful sense of humor. He was clever and full to the brim with knowledge gained throughout his life experiences. An accomplished craftsman and jack-of-all trades, he could fix or build just about anything. He will be remembered for the love and wisdom he shared with family and friends. He will be dearly missed.

Ron was preceded in death by his wife, Esther, and son Rhinehart Jr. He is survived by his six children, George (Jane), Peter (Linda), Linda (Randy), Mark (Laurie), Ruth, and Philip (Alison); 17 grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.
