Maurice Gil Jr Obituary

Maurice A. Gil Jr., 89, of Sierra Vista, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Maurice was born on March 30, 1934, to Maurice Sr. and Carmen Gil of Bisbee, AZ. In 1960, he married his wife of 63 years Genevieve “Jenny” Gil in Bisbee. They went on to have two sons, John Philip, and David Maurice Gil. Maurice attended Bisbee High School.

He started his career working for Phelps Dodge Mercantile Company. In 1959, Maurice was drafted into the Army where he served honorable with the 24th Infantry Division in Munich, Germany. After serving in the U.S. Army, he joined and retired from the Arizona National Guard. After working for Phelps Dodge, Maurice began a career with Civil Service where he worked at the Commissary. He retired from Civil Service after 23 years of service.

Maurice was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Abelardo “Lalo” Gil, and his sister Dolores Ramirez.

He is survived by his wife and two sons, his brother Manuel (Maria Teresa) Gil, a sister Hilda Gil, and numerous nieces and nephews who loved him so much.

Services will be held at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 800 Taylor Dr., Sierra Vista on April 4, 2024, Rosary will be at 10 am, Mass at 10:30 am with burial services to follow at Southern Arizona Veteran Cemetery.

A reception will follow at St. Andrews Church.
