Jerry Tom Herbeck
October 8, 1922 - April 19, 2019

Jerry Tom Herbeck passed away peacefully on April 19th, 2019 under hospice care at J.R. Caring Hearts Assisted Living.

Born and raised in Crook, Colorado, Jerry was one of five sibling brothers and sisters who helped their parents manage a small family farm. His parents emigrated from Czechoslovakia following that country’s revolution and subsequent independence in 1918.

Jerry enlisted in the United States Navy in October, 1941, and served in Pearl Harbor prior to being assigned aboard a submarine, the U.S.S. Sea Dragon, which patrolled the waters of the South Pacific. At the conclusion of WWII, he was assigned to the submarine base in New London, Connecticut, where (after a year) he was honorably discharged as a 1st-class Torpedoman in November of 1945. He returned to Colorado and on February 2nd, 1946, married his wife of 61 years, Ruth Anne Conley. They settled in Denver and celebrated the birth of a son, Steven Ray Herbeck, followed two years later with a daughter, Janice Lorrine Herbeck.

Jerry was a conscientious and hard worker, often maintaining multiple jobs and self-employment endeavors up to and even following being hired as a switchman with the Burlington Railroad. He retired after 30 years of service.

Following his retirement, he and his wife opted for warmer climates and moved to Kino Bay, Mexico, where they had a modest home built across the street from the beautiful Sea of Cortez. They became members of the Deportivo Club in Kino Bay and made numerous friends amongst other American retirees and Mexican families. They loved beachcombing and saltwater fishing on their 21-foot Skipjack boat. When the summer temperatures became too brutal, they retreated to a cooler Patagonia, Arizona, and mobile-home living. Jerry was a member of the VFW in Patagonia and always helped with 4th of July festivities. Following a period of his wife’s illnesses, they moved to Sierra Vista in 1988. Jerry could often be seen at the local flea market on Saturdays, displaying and selling reconditioned items from the back of his yellow-box van. As was the case in Denver, Kino Bay, and Patagonia, Jerry and his wife formed many friendships with their neighbors and associates.

Jerry’s beloved wife, Ruth Anne, passed away on April 19th, 2007, after a prolonged illness… exactly 12 years prior to his own passing. “Together in life… together in eternal rest and peace with their Savior.”

Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Anne; parents, Louis Tony Hrbek and Catherine Hrbek; brothers, Louis “Louie” Herbeck, Walter Edward Hrbek; sisters, Elsi Tilthman, Wilda Ahlberg; and his nieces and nephews.

Jerry was survived by his son, Steven Herbeck of Sierra Vista, Arizona, and his daughter, Janice Kingham of Ogden, Iowa, as well as many other nieces and nephews.

There are no plans for a memorial service; however, the family wishes to extend their deep gratitude and thanksgiving for all the love and care offered to Jerry during the final months of his life’s journey. God Bless You All!

To the Family, so sorry for your loss. Hope you will be comforted in knowing that Jerry has the prospect of being resurrected, healthy (in the flesh), to Paradise Earth just as Jehovah God has promised. In fact , the vast majority will enjoy everlasting life right here on earth as God had intended from the beginning. God's Kingdom will do this under the rule of Jesus Christ.
