Sierra Vista- Patrick J. Schable, 84, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, February 24, 2019. Patrick, son of the late Paul and Mary “Doll” (McCabe) Schable was born on August 17, 1934 in Northwood, North Dakota.

Raised in North Dakota he graduated from Sacred Heart High School in East Grand Forks, Minnesota. Patrick served nearly 23 years with the National Guard and the United States Army, and attained the rank of Sergeant First Class.  He worked with the Nike Hercules Missile Fire Control System, the Hawk Missile System and the calibration of test instruments. He served his final five months on Fort Huachuca where he retired.  In 1978, Pat started Civil Service full time and remained on duty in civil service for 14 years, where he retired as a mid-level (action officer) analyst with the US Army Information Systems Command.  Throughout his civil service career, he was awarded several commendations for exceptional service and dedication.  Upon retirement in 1993, he was presented with Superior Civilian Service Award.  

Pat had a wonderful sense of humor, was generous with others and loved to play cards with his family and friends.  He was very active in his church, now known as Our Lady of the Mountains.  Pat was a member of the initial committee to work toward establishing what was then known as St. Andrew’s Mission.  He was on the building committee and continued to be an active member of the church throughout his life.

Patrick is survived by his wife of 50 years Ilse A. (Gruber) Schable; a daughter, Monica Sheldon (Don); two sons, Paul Schable (Joanie) and James Schable; his twin sister, Patty Ann Cariveau ;  brother, Ted Schable (Dot); five grandchildren, Kelsey, Connor, Hannah, Paul, and Teshia; six great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Paula Tunseth and Monica Larivee, and by his brother James Schable.

Family and friends are invited to meet on Monday, March 4, 2019 at Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church, 1425 Yaqui Street, to celebrate the Liturgy of Christian Burial for Patrick at 8:00 am. Military Honors will follow at the church and inurnment in Mother Teresa Columbarium.  Hatfield Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, OLM Conference or the Our Lady of the Mountains building fund in Pat’s memory.

Mo and Ilse,and the Schable Family, I am so sorry for your loss. Pat and Ilse welcomed me into their home several times, wonderful hosts,good company and oh boy can Ilse cook.I enjoyed playing cards with them all,and good chats...Christmas time there was a beautiful experience ...great people that have blessed my life for knowing them.
