Thena Frances Yarbrough

Thena Yarbrough, 68, passed peacefully on January 17, 2019 after succumbing to a blessedly short illness.  Her funeral service will be held January 21, 2019, 3:30 p.m. at Sierra Vista United Methodist Church on Saint Andrews Drive. There will be a private interment at a later date.

Thena was born at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina where her father was stationed in the Army.  Her childhood was spent traveling with her family all over the country and to Japan and Germany during her father’s nomadic military career and continued through her early adulthood. She settled down in Sierra Vista, finally planting solid roots, and married the love of her life. Thena’s single devotion was to love those around her; family, neighbor or friend. She derived so much pleasure from cooking and baking for those she loved.  But her greatest joy was caring for her beautiful garden, which she filled with special plantings and mementos of loved ones. She’s also well-known for her talents of creating magnificent floral arrangements, special events planning, sewing and cake decorating. Her kindness, generosity, and joy for life were infectious.  No one ever left her home without a delicious meal and having their heart lightened by her laughter and company.

Thena is survived, and will be deeply missed, by her beloved husband, Daniel Yarbrough; children, Jason (Mandy) Batts and Dena (Dyron) Hubbard; step children, Annette (Eric) Geoffrion and Amy (Tom) Speciale of Woodbridge, Virginia; seven grandchildren, one great grandchild; and siblings Timothy (Kaye) Axtman, Sylvia (Paul) Caron, Lucia (Robert) McClure, Christine (Randy) Reichenberger, Amy (Mark) Rioux, Jonathan Axtman, and Hagen Neuber. Thena was preceded in death by her parents Leonard and LuVerne Axtman and beloved grandson, Zachary Batts.

In lieu of flowers please consider making a monetary donation at the service, that will later be distributed to local food pantries so we can keep on cooking!

My sincere condolences for your loss. During this extremely painful time, I hope your family can find a measure of comfort in God's future promises. In Revelation 21:4 God promises that he will wipe away the tears from our eyes and completely do away with pain, sorrow and death. Imagine how the world will when everything that causes suffering is gone forever. God also promises that there is going to be a resurrection. (Acts 24:15) Your family will have the opportunity to be reunited with Frances and never have to fear losing her again. -jw.org
