Pete Ramos Alvarado Jr.
Retired Master Sergeant, United States Air Force
July 20, 1929- July 22, 2014

Pete Ramos Alvarado Jr., 85, of Sierra Vista AZ passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday evening, July 22, 2014.

Pete was born on Saturday, July 20, 1929 in Sonora, Pinal County, Arizona.  Shortly following high school graduation, he enlisted in the US Air Force and fought in the Korean War. In between assignments as an aircraft maintenance specialist, Pete attended the University of Nebraska and earned a Bachelor of Science in history.  After retiring from the US Air Force as a Master Sergeant, he worked for Northrup Corporation as an aircraft instructor for the Peace Hawk Project.  Assignments from the US Air Force and Northrup sent Pete all over the US and world, specifically Panama, Thailand, and Saudi Arabia.  Pete moved to Sierra Vista in 1980.  Following retirement, he worked and volunteered for Sierra Vista Public Schools. Pete enjoyed spending time with family, traveling, playing tennis, square-dancing, and tending to his fruit trees.  He always promoted education and the importance of family.

Pete is survived by three daughters Yolanda (Michael) Hilber, Anna (Randy) Moses, and Denise (Rene) Wirtz; siblings Jesus (Rosa) Diaz, Jose (Socorro) Alvarado, and Toni (Gabe) Medina; numerous grand- and great-grandchildren; as well as his very close longtime friend and companion, Grace Merritt, whom he affectionately called Gracie.  He was a family oriented man, and will be truly missed.

Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Wednesday July 30, at the Hatfield Funeral Home.  Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 11 AM on Friday August 1, at Southern Arizona Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Buffalo Soldier Trail, Sierra Vista AZ, with Pastor Mark Conrad officiating.  In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the American Heart Association or charity of your choice in his name.

Denise & Family-
I am so sorry for your lost and I know words cannot express the hole in your lives that you feel at this present time. All I know is that he loved each and every one of you and that love will carry on long after he has gone.

I am very sorry for your loss. One encouraging thought you might find comforting in this difficult time is found at John 5:28, 29. “The hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out.” God gives us this beautiful hope that he will soon resurrect our dead loved ones and we can see them again.
